In viticultural terms, topography refers to the location of a vineyard, its altitude and the aspect.
Kanonkop’s vineyards are situated between 180m and 365m above sea level.
It ranges from lower lying flat surfaces at the entrance of the farm, to undulating slopes at the foot of the Simonsberg mountain, most of which have an easterly aspect.
Lying 40 kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean on the West Coast and 30 kilometres from False Bay to the southeast, there is constant movement in the air.
Together with this, the undulating topography of Kanonkop leads to irregular drops and increases in temperature.
The topography of our vineyards will cause conditions to cool or warm as the slope, mountain or flat patch of soil exposes its plants to varying air flow and sunshine
